HTTV HONORS JACK COOPER BY “PUTTIN’ ON THE RITZ"
“Puttin’ on the Ritz” was the theme of HomeTowne Television’s annual holiday party held at the Baltusrol Golf Club on December 9th 2010. And no one was classier than special guest, John W. “Jack Cooper” who was honored with HTTV’s Fred Honold Community Service Award.
“Jack Cooper epitomizes what the HomeTowne TV Community Service Award is all about,” said HTTV President Fred Honold. When recalling the many charitable organizations in which Mr. Cooper has assumed leadership roles, Mr. Honold remarked, only partly in jest, that, “Jack has done so much for the community, it’s probably faster to list the boards he has not served on.” Mr Honold concluded, “Jack’s legacy is across the board, but he’s very quiet about it and that’s why we honor him tonight.”
Mr. Cooper’s longtime friend and law partner Frederick W. “Bud” Rose offered a funny, light hearted account of his association with Mr. Cooper. But Mr. Rose ended on a serious note, saying, “Jack has devoted himself to extraordinary public service in enhancing the lives of others. He has selflessly given of his time and ability to benefit the community and, even more importantly, to benefit individuals in the community whose needs are often overlooked. Jack is a sensitive, kind man who has performed untold selfless deeds which passed unrecognized.”
Assemblyman Jon Bramnick also made some humorous remarks before presenting Mr. Cooper with a proclamation by the New Jersey State Assembly recognizing him for his lifetime of distinguished service.
Through the efforts of HTTV Vice President Bob Davies and Congressman Leonard Lance, Mr. Cooper also was presented with a flag flown over the US Capitol.
In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Cooper praised the dedicated individuals with whom he has been fortunate to work over the years. He said credit belongs to “the many wonderful people, including my fellow board members, who do good works for the rest of us. I’m flattered and honored to be part of them.”
A final highlight of the evening came when Mr. Cooper was presented with his own top hat and cane al a Fred Astaire. He was then joined by his wife Millie and the two led the guests in dancing to the tune of This Could be the Start of Something Big .
Credit for the evening’s arrangements belonged to HTTV Executive Vice President Paula Mooney and a team of dedicated volunteers. The party attracted about 200 guests who spent a lively three hours “Puttin’ on the Ritz”.
